The Compound Verb “వెళ్ళు” (Vellu) in Telugu

 The next compound verb is vellu(వెళ్ళు) or povu(పోవు). Both have the same meaning, which meansto go.

Here is an example:

Ø  Seetha kooragayalutheesukellindhi. (సీత కూరగాయలు తీసుకెళ్ళింది.) – Sita bought vegetablesand went.

In the above sentence, the usage of the compound verb indicates two actions, buying and taking them home.

Ø  Seetha kooragayaluteesukundi(సీత కూరగాయలు తీసుకుంది) – Sita picked vegetables.

In the above sentence, the verb just indicates the action of buying vegetables

Here are some other verbs along with the use of vellu’ (వెళ్ళు) and povu’ (పోవు):

Ø  Tinu(తిను) – to eat tinivellu/ tinelluta(తినివెళ్ళు / తినెళ్ళుట) – to eat and go

Ø  Choodu(చూడు) – to see choosivellu/ – chooselluta(చూసివెళ్ళు / చూసెళ్ళుట) – to see and go

Ø  Pattukonu(పట్టుకొను) – to catch pattukuvellu/ pattukelluta(పట్టుకువెళ్ళు/ పట్టుకెళ్ళుట) – to catch and go or to take away

Ø  Dhochukonu(దోచుకొను) – to steal dochukuvellu/ dochukelluta(దోచుకువెళ్ళు / దోచుకెళ్ళుట) – to steal and go

Ø  Vacchu(వచ్చు) – to come vacchipovu(వచ్చిపోవు) – to come and go

Ø  Vellu(వెళ్ళు) – to go vellipovu(వెళ్ళిపోవు) – to go away

In the last compound verb, vellipovu’ (వెళ్ళిపోవు) both verbs vellu’ (వెళ్ళు) and povu’ (పోవు) have a similar meaning which is to goindividually. But the verb gives the meaning of to go awayas a combined meaning for the compound verb
