Making sentences in various tenses and forms using the Telugu verbs ending with “యు” (yu)

 In this lesson, we use the Telugu Verb "వ్రాయు" (Vraayu) (Write) as an example to make sentences.

In Telugu, some personal pronouns have various meanings. Before reading this lesson, please read the chapter titled "Pronouns in Telugu." In these Verb Conjugation Tables, we have used only one meaning of each personal pronoun. We may not use all the given example sentences in our daily life. These sentences are given only for practice.

Verb in Infinitive Form

If the root verb ends with "యు" (yu) then add "ట" (ta) as shown in the example, to make it as a verb in the infinitive form.

Example: వ్రాయు (Vraayu) + ట (ta) ---> వ్రాయుట (Vraayuta)

To + Verb in Base Form

If the root verb ends with "యు" (yu) then remove that end and replace it by adding "యడానికి" (yadaaniki).

Example: వ్రాయు (Vraayu) ---> వ్రాయడానికి (vraayadaaniki) Example sentence: I will come to write a letter. = నేను ఉత్తరం వ్రాయడానికి వస్తాను. (Naenu vuttharam vraayadaaniki vasthaanu.)

Verb in Gerund Form

If the root verb ends with "యు" (yu) then remove that end and replace it by adding "yadam". The gerund form of the Telugu verb plays a major role in the formation of sentences. Mostly it is used in negative sentences such as నేను వ్రాయడం లేదు. (Naenu vraayadam laedhu.) (I am not writing.), అతడు వ్రాయడం లేదా? (Athadu vraayadam laedhaa?) (Is he not writing?), నాకు వ్రాయడం అంటే ఇష్టం. (Naaku vraayadam antae ishtam.) (I like to write. / I like writing.)

Verb in 'ing' form

If the root verb ends with "యు" (yu) then remove that end and replace it by adding "sthoo". The ing form of the Telugu verb also plays a major role in the formation of sentences. Mostly it is used in continuous tense sentences such as నేను వ్రాస్తూ ఉన్నాను. (Naenu vraasthoo vunnaanu.) (I am writing.), నేను వ్రాస్తూ ఉన్నానా? (Naenu vrasthoo vunnaanaa) (Am I writing?), నేను వ్రాస్తూ ఉంటాను. (Naenu vraasthoo vuntaanu.) (I will have been writing.) etc.

Positive Imperative Form

If the root verb ends with "యు" (yu) then remove that end and replace it by adding "యి" (yi). Positive imperative sentences are used to tell someone to do something.

If the root verb ends with "యు" (yu) then remove that end and replace it by adding "ద్దాము" "ddhaamu".

Let's write.

వ్రాద్దాము.

Negative Imperative Form

If the root verb ends with "yu" then remove that end and replace it by adding "య" (ya) and then add the negative word "వద్దు" (vaddhu). Negative imperative sentences are used to tell someone not to do something.

Don't write.

వ్రాయ వద్దు.

Vraaya vaddhu.


Note: The above are the general rules. However, there are some exceptions to these rules. You can understand those exceptions from the example sentences given in the next lesson.
